Giving & Learning Week

A week worth of collaborative events and learning activities, led by resident artists, makers and instructors. All of the workshops are themed around bigger ideas of giving, sharing and learning.

All proceeds from the diverse programme of participatory events will go towards Re-Act Edinburgh and their good work with displaced refugees across Europe.

 

 

Friday 12 February opening event

Cake icing with The Thrive Archive
Library Lounge (third floor)

Come and tell someone that you love them, by decorating German kisses intercepted from the Christmas Market.

 

Monday 15 February

Experience #SocialInnovation with People Know How

Have your say on important local issues in these informal learning sessions.

Sewing Surgery & Upcycling

Breath new life into old clothes by learning simple upcycling techniques. Bring an old item of clothing to donate or keep.

 

Wednesday 17 February

Yoga Now Studio (Studio 4.27)

Learn the basics of strength, alignment, focus, flexibility and more using physical postures taught by Jennifer MacGregor Dennis

Felt Art Books with Heather Potten
G25, Ground Floor
Suggested £5 donation to cover materials
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Create lovely notebooks using wet felting techniques, combining merino wool, silk fibres and other natural yarns. All materials provided.

 

Thursday 18 February

Needle Felting workshop
G25, Ground Floor
4:30 pm – 6:30 pm
Learn an easy way to make colourful needle felted shapes, such as gratitude hearts and stars with Jaimie MacDonald.

 

Saturday 20 February

Easy Printing on Gelli Blocks
Studio 1.22
All ages welcome, family-friendly
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Rona and Lorna will help people of any ages to print cards, gift tags or small pictures, using a gelatine plate and water based colours.

 

Sunday 21 February closing event

A Teddy Bears’ Picnic with it’s the The Bag

11:00 am – 1:30 pm
Bring your family and a teddy for a special journey into the woods. Lunch to follow provided by Real Junk Food Project.

“Kiss and Tell” Storytelling event with the Thrive Archive

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
A story, song and poetry slam, for ‘the big kid in all of us’.

 

These activities are the first part of a two-week donation drive, for winter clothing for displaced refugees in conjunction (with Re-Act) and art supplies for local food banks (with the Give Art project). Please bring any donations to the special stations in the Ground Floor lobby area of St Margaret’s House, 151 London Road, Edinburgh, EH7 6AE.
