Eid at Northfield Community Centre

A number of partners have organised an event for local people to celebrate Eid, the end of the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims. The community event will be held at Northfield Community Centre this Sunday 16 June from 12-3 pm. All are welcome and encouraged to attend!

We have been working with a commissioned stained glass artist (David Mola) to make a large scale artwork with local people from a variety of backgrounds. This piece will be unveiled on the day, with storytelling to accompany. Other elements to the day will include a dance workshop, free falafel & drinks (made by Syrian refugees in our locality) and a marketplace with lots of stalls.

“STRONG IS BETTER THAN ANGRY” Short Film Casting Call

Award-winning Edinburgh based filmmakers are casting for a short film about the state of the country, called STRONG IS BETTER THAN ANGRY. The film is a drama-documentary hybrid which asks ‘What makes us, as women, angry?’ Much of it will take place in a body combat style kick-boxing class. This exciting short film has been commissioned as part of a series called ‘The Uncertain Kingdom’ and will be screened all around the country at the end of the year.

We are looking for those who identify as female to perform as themselves in this film. All age groups, ethnicities, sizes and abilities are welcome and encouraged. We want a truly representative group of women on screen to explore what we feel is a timely question. Familiarity with body combat or kickboxing is welcome but not essential, although a certain level of fitness will be necessary. We want to hear about what makes you personally upset, angry or sad – so strong opinions are encouraged!
