Bruce Eckhart brings together past and present works in a very welcome exhibition of paintings, opening late March in St Margaret’s House.
Remarkable for their luminous forms and flares of brilliant colour, at first glance Eckhart’s paintings embody abstract expressionism. Though as the artist himself reveals, often through his chosen titles, each imaginative composition contains concrete shapes and figures which he summons from a varied range of sources.
Eckhart hails from Mtwara in Tanzania and his upbringing there nurtured his love of vibrant colours. He moved to Edinburgh in 1972 to study art formally and has been painting for forty years.
