Sponsored walk a great success

The sponsored walk around Arthurs Seat was a great success, we can now reveal the final total with all the donations counted and it is a whopping £800.70!!!

Thanks so much to the amazing students and staff, your support means the world to everyone at UPMO and a special thanks to Sandy Sutherland and Dougie Craigie who did a great job organizing everything.

All the money the students raise goes into the Student fund and the students themselves decide how they want to use the money to make life at UPMO even better.

Drinking Water = Doing Good

Almost since the beginning UPMO has been using water fountains from AquAid, a social enterprise who have raised over £10m since 2000 and used it to bring clean, safe drinking water to over 1.5m people across Africa.

After using a certain amount of water organisations get to name a new well. Here is the well UPMO are able to name.

What should we put on the well UPMO has supported?

Charter For Involvement lands at UPMO!

We were pleased to welcome Lynnette Linton, NIN Chair and other special guests to our most recent student forum, the students  discussed how they wanted be more involved with UPMO and how we could work together to implement the points in the National Involvement Network charter for involvement.

Here are the main statements of the charter:

1. We must be at the heart of any plans about our lives

2. We have the right to live our lives independently

3. We want to be involved in decisions made by the organisations that plan and run our support

4. We want to be involved in events run by the organisations that plan and run our support

5. We must be involved in our communities.

6. We must be able to speak about how our support is working for us and what would be better.

7. We want to be involved in choosing the people who support us.

8. We want to give information and training to staff at all levels.

9. We want to be involved in writing policies that affect us and making them easier to understand.

10. We want to be involved in decisions made by the organisations that plan and run our support

11. We want to be involved in events run by the organisations that plan and run our support

12. We want to be involved with ‘Speaking-up’ groups.

13. We want to take part in national and local campaigns.

14. We have the right to make formal complaints if we need to.

Watch for more developments as we integrate these into everything we do at UPMO.

Movers and shakers at Upward Mobility

Congratulations to Tony and Clare on their recent appointments as team leaders.

Rob Flett will be starting as the new Staff Team Manager / Outward Mobility co-ordinator. This is an exciting new post is part funded by a grant from Shared Care Scotland for a year, with the possibility of a second year of funding if we can move towards making the post self sufficient financially.
