Details about the 2015 Festival

As part of Edinburgh’s rich cultural heritage there are many police boxes located across the city. Once serving as miniature police stations, many of these boxes are now in the hands of various community-minded individuals who are keen that they should remain part local life.

The members of the Edinburgh (ex-) Policebox Festival aim to service the city by providing creative spaces where local artisans can display their work and share their produce.

On the 4th and 5th July we are going to have the first ever (ex-) Police Box Festival. This will be a series of free events through which we’ll be inviting members of the public to see these fascinating but previously inaccessible spaces. It will also showcase art, performance, costume, food and history from around Edinburgh.

Launch night

On Friday the 29th of May we will have our launch night at the Pier Place police box, next to Newhaven Harbour.

The event will be split into two sections. The first part between 4 and 5pm is aimed at children and families, providing a chance for children to try out circus skills (plate spinning, hula hooping, balloon modelling), children’s comedy, storytelling and even a special guest local writer.

The second part of the event will a be a special edition of Electric Tales, a comedy storytelling night usually based at The Stand Comedy Club. Aside from a packed bill of comedians and locals telling stories with their own comic slant, there’ll also be the chance for people to enter our audience competition where the winning story or drawing produced will receive a much coveted Electric Tales robot.

Participating members of the Edinburgh (ex-) Police Box Festival and performers at the launch night are available for interview or further quotes. High res images are available on request. For more information, please get in touch with Johnathan Elders (contact details above).
