10:00 am - 12:00 pm
The Kids introductory sewing class will teach your child how to use a sewing machine. Completion of this class is essential before moving on to any of the other sewing classes for children.
At age 8-12, children have the mental capacity to learn the basic concepts and sufficient manual dexterity to operate a sewing machine. It’s actually the perfect age at which to learn. Sewing is an ideal creative activity for children. It develops their manual dexterity, hand/eye co-ordination, and encourages focus and concentration. Completing a sewing project from start to finish fosters a sense of accomplishment that can boost a child’s morale and self-confidence. And it’s really great fun! Plus it gives them a huge sense of achievement and self-worth.
In the Kids sewing class, numbers are limited so each child receive lots of attention and be carefully supervised.
Who is this aimed at?
Beginners aged 8-12. They must be able to place their feet flat on the floor when sitting in a chair that’s 45cm high. If they cannot, then they will not have full control of the sewing machine and for their own safety, will not be able to take the class.
What will my child learn?
How to use a sewing machine safely and confidently
Practice sewing straight lines, curves and corners
Foundations sewing skills to enable them to progress to the Kids Sewing Course or any of the other sewing classes.
Sewing machines, equipment and fabrics provided
I am insured and hold a PVG (Disclosure Scotland) certificate

What are beeswax wraps?
Beeswax wraps are a natural eco-friendly alternative to cling film and tin foil for wrapping food, bread, cheese, sandwiches and covering bowls and jars. Perfect for school lunch boxes and keeping snacks fresh when you’re on the go. They keep food fresh, are naturally anti-bacterial, can be reused, refreshed and are compostable.
The cotton wraps are made using organic ingredients: beeswax, jojoba oil and tree resin.
What will you do at the workshop?
Experienced tutors will guide you step-by-step through mixing ingredients, application, setting, finishing and maintenance. By the end of the workshop you’ll be making wraps like a pro.
It’s learning in a social, fun and relaxing way with like-minded people.
Why take a beeswax wrap workshop?
If you’re looking to reduce your carbon footprint, reduce waste to landfill, reduce chemical-laden plastic food packaging or looking for ways to become more zero waste then this is for you. Single-use plastic products end up in landfill and in our oceans where the continue to leach harmful chemicals for years. Cling film takes as much as 500 years to degrade on land and breaks into millions of tiny pieces in the sea. Reducing your plastic use is great for you, your family and the planet.
Come join our workshop and make 3 wraps to take home with you. They make great eco gifts too!
Every small change adds up towards a more sustainable future.
