Places 19 Stanley Street

“Edinburgh Palette’s proposal will be a superb addition to the space available for artists and the third sector in East Edinburgh. This is especially vital as it looks like we’ll be losing their premises at St Margaret’s House soon. The plans for 19 Stanley Street are fantastic – attractive, innovative and sustainable. From running St Margaret’s House over the last ten years, Edinburgh Palette has rightly established itself as one of the leading arts social enterprises in our city and I’ve no doubts that, given the chance, they will make a success of this.”

Edinburgh Palette’s vision is to design and deliver a modular cabin village in the heart of Portobello/Duddingston. A hub for creatives, health and wellbeing groups, service providers, social enterprises and small start-ups would represent a significant step in Edinburgh Palette’s diverse community support programme.

Unlike many other creative spaces, our concept would blend in with the natural surroundings of Stanley Street, promoting environmental and sustainable working practices, a meeting point and affordable studio provision for a number of existing St Margaret’s House Tenant’s and residents in the surrounding area.

Architect’s vision for Stanley St

Locality and Culture

Portobello is home to a burgeoning creative community and a growing residential population. A number of creative initiatives and services have left the area to make way for housing developments and commercial retail outlets at the western end of Portobello. Edinburgh Palette can address this vacuum by offering affordable studio space, community events and a number of health and wellbeing services at 19 Stanley Street.

Creativity

There is a lack of affordable, rentable creative studio space in Portobello and the locality. In addition to community services, Edinburgh Palette aims to provide provision for around 100 single unit studios for Portobello/Duddingston residents currently leasing space at St Margaret’s House and for other creative groups and tenants in the local area.
