Abbey Scholarship and Fellowships for Painters at The British School at Rome

Abbey Awards offer all-expenses-paid residencies in excellent modern studios at the British School at Rome in 2017/18 for painters whose work shows exceptional merit and promise.

The 9-month Abbey Scholarship is awarded to an early-career painter and carries a monthly stipend of up to £700.

The 3-month Fellowships, with monthly stipends of up to £800, are offered to mid-career painters.

British and American citizens and those of other nationalities who have lived for at least five years during the last 10 years in either the United Kingdom or the United States are eligible to apply. There is no age limit.

The British School at Rome is a distinguished recently renovated building housing a community of some 35 scholars researching ancient history, archaeology, architecture and art history as well as fine artists. It is ideally situated near the Borghese Gardens.

The Abbey Administrator also manages the ABBEY HARRIS MURAL FUND, which makes grants towards the creation of murals in public places.
