ROOTS
When plants start to grow roots, they look for water to survive.
WATER
The element of water is often associated with deep emotions, feelings, sensitivity, a capacity to adapt.
Roots in water also mirror the embryological journey we all do to come here.
In this exhibition there is all of that and it also encompasses an embodied artistic exploration over the course of two years and through different media of a deep sense of feeling lost, without ground, yet grounded. Roots being taken away, and different ones forming. A sense of Re-orienting at the start of a journey, searching for an identity in a period encompassing Brexit and a Pandemic on a collective level, menopause, the destruction and recreation of my work as I knew it and the major landmark of the loss of both parents and more on a personal level.
Drawings, paintings, writing, photography are some of the media used.
During the week of the exhibition, there will be a soundscape of nature playing ongoingly, created by Derek Houghton with sounds I collected over two years of travel. If you wish to pause, experience, be, come along . I will have yoga matts you can put on the ground if you wish to lie down, and chairs, if instead you wish to sit.
In conjunction with the exhibition, I will be running a somatic movement workshop – From Water to Earth
