Circles of Life – Fundraising Exhibition by The Alma Project
Sat 11th – Sun 19th March 2023, St.Margaret’s House (Gallery 2)
Opening Workshop Sat 11th March, 2-4pm

The Alma Project is a mental health charity that uses the arts as a therapeutic tool. We provide weekly, therapeutic arts groups that give people the safe space, time, resources and support to create a real change in their mental well-being and quality of life.

The exhibition invites us to remember that all is interconnected, cyclical, and alive. Life is a circle of movement and constant creation. We all play a part in the world, despite our roles or identity. Through the circular shape, nature reminds us that all things have a purpose, and everything and everyone belongs to the big cycle of life.

The artworks have been created by Alma members and their supporters who have kindly donated some of their beautiful works to raise funds for the charity.

You are welcome to join our opening workshop on Saturday 11th March, 2-4pm, and can also start to select the artworks that you wish to purchase and take home at the end of the exhibition.

All the donations collected will go to support the work of The Alma Project. Further information is available on www.thealmaproject.wordpress.com or www.facebook.com/thealmaprojectedinburgh.

You are all invited to join our creative and relaxing opening event on Sat 11th March, 2-4pm. During the afternoon, you will have the chance to enjoy the beautiful artwork on display and if you wish, you can also take part in a community art workshop. We will explore together the creation of a group work that will become part of the exhibition. Everyone is welcome, and no experience is required.

More information about The Alma Project
The project was set up in Dec 2010 by people with mental health issues and their supporters. Since then, we have supported many people, providing three to six groups per week and have been involved in partnerships, projects, concerts, exhibitions and performances. We are now a charity based at Craigentinny Community Centre. Through the years, we have witnessed many people with moderate, severe and enduring mental health issues recover or become able to manage their mental health and live full and creative lives.

We provide emotional support and a weekly programme of quality therapeutic arts groups such as art for well-being, crafts, creative writing and drama. Most of our groups are long-term, giving people a safe space and time to create trusting relationships and explore issues. The groups give people a structure to their week, an opportunity to socialise, make friends, and the chance to express themselves in a creative way. Art materials can give a voice to feelings that are hard to express.

Sometimes talking about things is difficult, but squeezing or bashing clay, drawing, painting or cutting things up can give expression to something deep down. We also work in partnership with other organisations, and host public events. These give people a great boost in confidence and self-esteem and allow the public to see that mental ill health need not stop you from creating and positively contributing to society.
