News Young Start Grant for Yoyo Café

YoYo Café has been awarded a generous Young Start grant from the Big Lottery Fund. The award will enable us to open the café for five days a week over the course of 2017, creating more training and work experience opportunities for current and new UpMo students. We are really excited about what this grant will make possible.

This is what Josh said about the award:

“We are delighted to be awarded this Young Start grant.  The YoYo Café pilot has been a real success and students have become much more confident as a result. They have really enjoyed working as a team and creating delicious food. On the two days a week the café currently runs there’s a real sense of energy and excitement and it’s great to know we now have the resources to open for five days a week. It’s fantastic to have this chance to make even more opportunities for learning and training available, so thanks to everyone at Young Start for making this possible.”

This is what Simon said:

“This funding will also allow us to start doing table service and hopefully a trolley service – meaning we can open up the café to all the tenants in the building where we are based. It’s a really exciting time for YoYo Café and we look forward to seeing how the students progress.”

At the end of January, Upward Mobility was formally congratulated in the Scottish Parliament by Ash Denham and other MSPs for being awarded this Young Start Grant and for the training and work experience opportunities it is going to allow us to create. Thank you to everyone who supported that motion!
