News Woodland garden – Call for volunteers!

Volunteers required to assist in community project!

Edinburgh Palette are hosting a two volunteering days: on Monday 9th October between 2-5pm and Sunday 22nd October between 12-2pm, and are inviting everyone to come along and take part!

Edinburgh Palette calling for volunteers after being successful in receiving funding from Scottish charity Paths for All to improve access to the urban woodland garden at St Margaret’s House.

This fantastic project will encourage more people to get active outdoors and get involved with their community. With contractors now appointed to create a new inclusive access gate point off the London Road entrance to St Margaret’s House, we can start to explore garden possibilities for this greenspace. Over the next few weeks you’ll see a gate made by Edinburgh Tool Library be installed and a timber deck built to provide a welcoming entrance to explore this urban woodland.

There are paths which can be explored, currently used by a number of groups and individuals based at St Margaret’s, and the hope is that by making this part of the path more accessible there will be an increase in people making full use of this great community asset.

The volunteers are required to help with pruning to clear the overgrown vegetation from the path route and using spades to level the route. Give one hour of your time or the entire session, it really doesn’t matter. No previous experience necessary, and all ages and skills levels are welcomed. You may even learn a new skill in the process!
Ian Findlay, Chief Officer of Paths for All said:
“We were really pleased to be able to support this project through our Community Path grant fund. We would now encourage anyone who can to support the group by joining them on their volunteer day.
“Getting involved in a path development project like this is a great opportunity to feel part of the community and really gives a sense of pride and achievement to volunteers. As well as feeling like you have contributed significantly to the place where you live, it is the perfect chance to have fun and share a laugh or two with other like-minded people.“
