Audacious Women Festival 2020

The 5th Audacious Women Festival will be held in Edinburgh on 20 – 23 February 2020.

The Festival, which encourages and supports women to Do What You Always Wish You Dared, includes a wide range of workshops offering women an opportunity to try out something new in a safe, supportive space. They range from the Art of Batik, through creative writing, to a Rope Access taster session.  There are two full day workshops:  Silver Jewellery, Jewellery in Action where, as well as learning how to make your own silver pendant, you will have an opportunity to hear about how jewellery can be used for social good. And secondly, Freda O’Byrne, Artistic Director of Tragic Carpet, (based in St Margaret’s House, EH7 6AE) is running an all day Visual Theatre workshop, and will introduce some exercises and games with the emphasis on fun and  mutual support. There will also be talks, exhibitions,  theatre and musical performances celebrating audacious women.

Theatre Workshop for Women

Led by Freda O’Byrne, Artistic Director of Tragic Carpet as part of the Audacious Women Festival

Location: City Arts Centre Friday 21st February 10.30 to 16.30 £45

No drama, no texts but a lot of fun! We will get to know each other through theatre games and exercises with the emphasis on fun, mutual support and curiosity. Participants will learn about visual performance by working together supportively in groups and solo, exploring ideas through subtle movement exercises, improvising around themes and placing our work within the space in different ways. Prior experience is not necessary but it is also welcome. The most important thing to bring along is yourself!

This workshop is focussed on process and not on an end result, leaving us free to play with ideas and see where they go. We will be exploring creative exercises in a light and playful way, shaping the day to match where our enthusiasm runs.
