With the deadlines for both competition’s fast approaching, we wanted to let you know that entries for this year’s Portrait Artist of the Year close on FRIDAY 1ST APRIL.

Please remember you must submit a self-portrait produced within the last five years, at least one additional painting and a passport style photograph of yourself. The additional picture can be a portrait, but could equally be a still life, abstract or landscape.

The judges love seeing a wide variety of styles, materials and compositions. Here is a small example of works that have impressed them in previous years.

The judges will select the artists for this year’s competitions after seeing their work on a screen, so we urge you to take the best photograph you can of your self-portrait. This year’s heats for Portrait Artist of the Year will take place at the Wallace Collection in London. The gallery boosts a superb selection of paintings and provides a ready source of inspiration for the artists chosen to take part. Click here to see the paintings on display.
