What do trees and woodland mean to you?
How have you and your work grown with them?

Timed to coincide with the launch of the a new national ‘Tree Charter’, this exhibition will ask artists/makers to consider their relationship to trees and woodland, and show works which will encourage visitors to think about and share their own stories.

The new charter will launch in November 2017, the 800th anniversary of the Charter of the Forest…

“Led by the Woodland Trust, more than 50 organisations from across multiple sectors, are standing together to call for a Charter for Trees, Woods and People. Through collecting stories about what trees and woods mean to people, we are building a picture of their value to everyone in the UK.  These stories will be used to create a set of guiding principles, around which the charter will be written. The final Charter for Trees, Woods and People will influence policy and practice and celebrate the role that trees and woods play in our lives.”

It is hoped that the exhibition will feature a wide variety of contributions in different media including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, craft, design, moving image, writing, sound, performance and installation. It is also the aim to encourage collaboration between artists/makers and ideas are welcome towards this.

Submissions are invited from artists/makers in any art form whose work relates to trees and woodland.

Several invited artists/makers from outwith St Margaret’s House will also be included. Resident artist Tansy Lee Moir will curate the exhibition with Sophia Lindsay Burns.

In the run up to the exhibition and during the two weeks there will be a programme of events, talks and workshops which link with its theme and encourage participation – artists/makers are also invited to submit ideas or suggestions for this programme.
