Thistle Quilters 1719-2018 Workshop/Talk/Demonstration Programme

Monday 21 st May. Little Thistles, sewing in the Gallery.
Bring some stitching or sit and chat with the Thistle Quilters house group “Little
Thistles”. 11am-3pm- Free

Tuesday 22 nd May, Linen and Lace. 10am-4pm
A whole day workshop with internationally recognised award winning quilter Sheena Norquay. Using a piece of lace as inspiration you will enlarge one of the motifs for the focal point. The motif can be embroidered, appliqued or both. Lace, buttons and stitching will be used to complete the design.Cost £30 Materials list will be provided in advance or a pack can be purchased for £5. Hand sewing.

Wednesday 23 rd May an Introduction to using Inktense blocks and watercolour
pencils 11am-12pm
A 1 hour workshop with Thistle member Carol Lenagan, You will have the opportunity
to try out Intense blocks and watercolour pencils in a number of ways and Carol will
show you how Inktense has been used in some of the exhibition quilts. Cost £5. All
materials provided

Thursday 24 th May Character Doll 1pm-4pm
A half day workshop with Thistle member Jan Wagner. You will use vintage fabrics,
which bring character and charm to the doll. Cost £15.All Materials provided. Hand and
machine sewing.

Friday 25 th May Warm Covers 2pm-3pm
A talk by internationally recognised Thistle member, author and historical quilt expert
Janet Rae. Janet will give an illustrated talk on the history of quilts in Scotland based on
her published book Warm Covers. Free

Saturday 26 th May English Paper Piecing 2-3pm
A 1 hour workshop with Thistle member Deborah Pearce , You will learn the basics of
this traditional technique, and learn about modern designs/methods. You will take
away a small sample with suggestions for its use. All materials provided .Hand stitching
Cost £5

Sunday 27 th May Demonstration: Using a soldering iron to fuse and decorate
organza: 1.30-2pm
A 30 minute demonstration by Thistle member Deborah Pearce on the use of a
soldering iron to fuse and cut layers of organza producing interesting colour variations
and shapes which can be incorporated into textile art. Cost Free

Monday 28 th May Boro: 2-3pm 
A 1 hour workshop with Thistle member Gillian Sandilands where you will stitch
fabrics in the Boro style. This will be a relaxing hand stitching workshop using simple
stitches and you will produce one small stitched piece which will introduce you to the
elements of the style. All materials provided Hand stitching. Cost £5

Tuesday 29 th May 1718 Silk Coverlet Goose Block 1-4pm
A half day workshop with Thistle member Gillian Sandilands. You will make a goose
block using needle turn applique in the style of those in the exhibition. All materials
provided. Hand stitching. Cost £15

Wednesday 30 th May Little Houses 2-4pm
A 2 hour taster workshop with Thistle member Marjory Grant. You will make a small
applique house using tweed fabrics which can be later incorporated into a cushion or
other item. All materials provided. Hand and machine stitching Cost £10

Saturday 2 nd June Fabric Hearts 2-3pm
A 1 hour workshop with Thistle member Rosy Carmichael You will make at least one
silk covered heart decoration. All materials provided cost £5. No stitching required.
