During which Anne will paint The Last Leaf
Each leaf in The Oak Year is painted from a real specimen, all from one oak wood on the shore of Loch Tay. From the withered brown leaves that had spent the winter lying on the woodland floor, through the bud-burst of spring, to the fresh bright green of May, to the dark, tough green of high summer, through the riot of autumn colours, I came eventually back to brown. And so the oak year turns full circle.
Having started in April 2014, this work is now finished. It comprises 24 panels, each 5ft by 4ft. I am showing all these panels at Edinburgh Palette alongside examples of the work in different printed formats (posters, cards etc), a scale model showing a suggested display, as well as related work on oaks I have produced over the years (drawings, paintings, installations).
Anne has been an Edinburgh Palette resident for a few years, and was the painter in last summer’s “A Potter, a Painter and a Poet” exhibition. Her work explores the details in our local landscapes – she works outside in the natural environment most of the time getting to know particular places intimately. This summer she is working in Vogrie Country Park in Midlothian preparing installations for display in October and November.
