Community Events Refresher Sewing Class

If you used to sew but are a bit rusty, then this Refresher sewing class is a good starting point to brush up on your foundation sewing skills.

Who is this aimed at?
Anyone who needs to refresh their sewing techniques. If you need a reminder of how to thread your machine, wind bobbins and understand sewing machine tension. Or you could consider one of my Beginners classes. which are also useful as a refresher of basic use of sewing machines.

What will I learn?
I’ll take you through some common sewing tasks that you’ll need if you’d like to start dressmaking again. Plus there’s plenty of my tips to help you achieve a professional finish to your dressmaking projects.

The Refresher Sewing Class will cover:

a reminder of how to thread your machine and wind bobbins
how to sew neat, accurate seams
different seam types and when to use them
how to take up hems
various methods of neatening raw edges
trimming and pressing
edgestitching and topstitching to create impact.
how to sew in a zip
how to make buttonholes using your sewing machine

The list above are all common dressmaking techniques if you want to achieve a neat-looking finish to your sewing projects. You may have forgotten how to do these, or perhaps you haven’t learned these before? In addition, if there’s a technique that you can’t seem to get to grips with, then please let me know in advance of the class, and I’ll try to cover it if there’s time. You will make samples of most of these techniques, and will have notes to take away so you will be able to use these as a reference for your future sewing.
