If you used to sew but are a bit rusty, then this Refresher Sewing Class will help you brush up your sewing techniques.

What will I learn?
I’ll take you through some common sewing tasks that you’ll need if you’d like to start sewing again, combined with lots of tips I’ve learned in my sewing experience that will help you achieve a professional finish to your dressmaking projects.

The Refresher Sewing Class will cover:

  • how to sew perfect straight and accurate seams
  • various methods to neaten raw edges
  • trimming and pressing
  • whether to notch or clip curves
  • what is staystitching and why you should do it
  • when you need to use easestitching
  • how to make facings lie flat
  • how to sew couture-quality darts
  • how to sew in a zip
  • what does ‘stitch in the ditch’ mean, and when to do it.
  • edgestitching and topstitching to create impact.

The list above are all common dressmaking techniques if you want to achieve a neat professional-looking finish to your sewing projects. You may have forgotten how to do these, or perhaps you haven’t learned these before? In addition, if there’s a technique that you can’t seem to get to grips with, then please let me know in advance of the class, and I’ll try to cover it if there’s time. You will make samples of most of these techniques, and will have notes to take away so you will be able to use these as a reference for your future sewing.
