This course will introduce students to the key concepts in capturing good-quality audio recordings in a podcasting context. It will also cover how to edit these recordings using freely-available audio software (Reaper) and prepare it for use in broadcast, podcast, film, web, archive etc. This is an in-person class, with breaks during the day and a practical activity.

– Laptop (Please note an iPad/iPhone is not sufficient for this course)
– Audio recorder (Zoom, Olympus, Tascam) or a smartphone
– A pair of headphones

Expected learning outcomes:
Students will learn about the range of recording equipment available, choose the most appropriate for their project, and be guided on how to use it. They will also be made aware of the audio editing software available and be given an overview of basic audio editing concepts. They will install audio editing and recording software and edit a short interview-based piece and learn how to publish this.
