Just because we are young, doesn’t mean we don’t have anything to say…
Positive Transitions is a project that helps young people to make a great start as they begin secondary school. We are consulting 860 young people as they start secondary school in Edinburgh and this exhibition features their art work and comments.
People Know How wants to make a significant difference by working with young people, addressing the challenges they might be facing in the move to secondary school. This project want to find out what matters to young people and give them a say in their future.
What matters to young people when transitioning to secondary school? How do they describe High School? Do young people feel heard? Does social media affect the way young people think school will be? What could help current P7s on their transition to high school? What could make young peoples’ voices heard more? And many more questions being considered by young people! Come and enjoy their art work!
We believe that people know how to identify their needs, strengths and assets to find solutions that will help them fulfil their potential and solve social issues. Often, people don’t realise that they know how and that’s where we come in – unlocking ideas for a better future, today. We call this process social innovation. We aim to support and empower people to mobilise their assets, get organised and fulfil their potential.
We have organised our work into four themes:
1. LEARNING FOR CHANGE
2. CONNECTING CULTURES
3. CONSULTING COMMUNITIES
4. TRANSFORMING LIVES
We are committed to exploring and addressing challenges and opportunities through community research, partnership working, community development and social innovation. We will continue to approach this challenge involving all people; including the general public, service users, community groups, charities (large and small), the statutory sector, business and enterprise; and local, national and international government.
