This Paper Collage Book cover is a cross-over between an art and a sewing class to introduce children to mixed media textiles.
This is an ideal class for children between 8 and 12 years and encourages upcycling of paper for new uses.
What’s involved?
- how to upcycle newspapers and magazines that would normally be thrown away
- using paint to add a personal colour palette
- stitching the paper collage to add texture and interest
- making into a book cover, a phone or tablet case.
All materials are provided. The child should bring a book about A5 or A6 size – this can be a notebook, a novel, a school text book or jotter. Children should already be able to use a sewing machine confidently. If they can’t, then they can take my Kids Introductory sewing class.

Tutor Jen Skedd is a lifelong sewist since age 7, and a degree-trained Textile Artist/Designer. Artisan Stitch has won a Certificate of Excellence and is rated Best sewing classes in Edinburgh.
