St Margaret’s House is excited to present new works by Robyn Benson that explore structural capabilities of the curve.
Employing a purposeful rudimentary approach to construction, Benson’s work aims to acknowledge and ascertain founding rules of structural support resulting in temporal, self-sufficient structures that only exist at a single point of balance.
The exhibition From A Horizontal Line, collates an on going body of work that centres around capturing the potential energy generated in the creation of the curve from a single linear form. Moving between diagrammatic definitions and physical presentation, the work becomes an exploration of how a structural equilibrium is obtained through counterweights, counteracting forces and material tension, achieving structural stability from a kinetic interaction that is perpetually paused in motion.
