Cutting Edge- Edge Textile Artists Scotland - Gallery 2
Saturday 3 May - Saturday 17 May 2014 All Day
St Margaret's House

Cutting Edge- an exhibition of exciting contemporary textiles.

In 1988 the three leading textile art groups in Scotland shared a platform to exhibit work in a highly successful exhibition entitled ‘Three Strands’. After several other individual exhibitions, this arrangement was formalised when edge – textile artists scotland was formed in 1999 with the merger of those three textile art groups – Embryo, ‘One,6,7’ and SETA. The original groups, although coming from different parts of Scotland, shared a common higher educational base in the Dundee, Glasgow and Edinburgh art schools where observed drawing was the foundation of the creative process. Now the membership is from a much broader background, although everyone has followed some formal recognised education in textiles.

Edge returns to Edinburgh Palette building on the success of their previous 2010 exhibition at St Margaret’s House ‘Starting Points’ and their subsequent Scottish touring exhibition ‘ a Stitch in Rhyme’ based on Scottish poetry.

As one of Scotland’s foremost groups of contemporary textile art practitioners Edge aims to bring the work of Textile Artists to a wider audience and to elevate this art form to a higher level. Members of Edge pride themselves in taking a challenging and innovative approach to contemporary textile art. The strength of the work produced by the members lies in the technical expertise, diversity of subject and the approach to design. Pay this exhibition a visit and be inspired by these ‘Cutting Edge’ approaches to Textile Art.
