Bridging Between...

This exhibition is about ‘bridges’ – between places and people. Not everything in this exhibition falls neatly under the theme inherent in the title. There are other works and pieces that have been included.

In a sense, words and language act as a bridge between people and writing is essentially co-ordinated marks that signify names or concepts that are communicated between people. Similarly, migrating birds form flocks bridging between continents – that is when they are not sitting on wires criss-crossing our view of the sky. And then boats are like floating bridges between ports helping people make connections from one land mass to the other.

I believe that my work is varied and rather itinerant. I might argue that some of it ‘bridges’ me to my younger self – but that might be pushing the analogy too far… In any case, I try to reveal something in everything I do – I do not always succeed, but perhaps the essence remains in the ‘trying’ while the end point is still elusive.
