Mindful Dotty Art for Wellbeing - online

Mindful Dotty Art for Wellbeing - online

Tuesday 24 August
10:30 am - 11:45 am

At this online class, there’s no dress code, bad hair is appreciated and those hankering for connection welcomed.
This is a drop in, running in 3 week blocks. The same link will let you join for any date, come when you please. Duration 1.15hrs. By donation

So what is Dotty Art?
It’s all about relaxing, feeling good and enjoying yourself. It’s a gentle mindful practice that helps relieve worries, stress and anxiety, aiding feelings of wellbeing. Dot mark making to create images is a primitive art form (probably fingers dots), that’s deeply rooted in tribal cultures across the world from Europe to Australia to Africa and still used today

What will I do at this class?
After settling and making sure everyone is ok with the technology, you’ll be gently guided in an easy 5 minute meditation, this helps set the mood; to give yourself the space to turn off your busy mind, let go and connect with your inner creative genius. Yes, you do have one! You don’t need to be artistic, it’s all about getting into flow and we reckon you’ll be delighted with your creations.
The idea is not to think too much, it’s not about the outcome, it unfolds as you walkabout. Just take one step and see where it takes you. Choose your favourite colours and let the journey unfold as you lose yourself in the moment.
We’ll explore colour and making shapes, dots and patterns. We will spend some time at the beginning with instruction and discussion then quieten until we share our efforts near the end (not compulsory).

Why take this class?
We welcome you and offer you a safe place for nurturing your intuitive process, this is both healing and beautiful.
You will leave with a new skills for relaxation, an uplifting sense of achievement, a quietened mind and an astonishing piece of upcycled art.
You don’t need much to start with; something to dot on, a smooth stone, tin can, jar, wooden bowls, shell, offcuts of wood or card will do fine; some sort of medium like acrylic paint, poster paint, emulsion, paint pens, sharpies or felt pens; and tools for the paint like toothpicks, cotton buds, chop sticks, nail art tools or a pencil.
This class is by charitable donation to support your wellbeing.
EcoArt is a grassroots charity.

Beginners Sewing and Dressmaking Course

Beginners Sewing and Dressmaking Course

Wednesday 25 August - Friday 27 August
10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Beginners  Sewing & Dressmaking Course

This 3-day Summer School course in foundation sewing skills will not only teach you how to use a sewing machine, but also give you an introduction to dressmaking.

Course Description

Beginners Sewing & Dressmaking is a combined course that teaches you how to use a sewing machine and some foundation sewing skills.  You’ll also make an easy little project (a tote bag)  to learn to measure, cut and handle fabric, in preparation for the main event. Then comes the introduction to dressmaking section – over the next day and a half, you’ll make your choice of a simple skirt using a commercial paper pattern.
(You will need to bring your own pattern and fabric for your projects – I’ll provide details when you book. You’ll need to book early to allow time to obtain these items.)

Level: Beginners (or as a refresher if you haven’t sewn for a while)
Duration: 3 days (18 hours)

Who is this aimed at?

Absolute Beginners. No previous sewing experience is required.
If perhaps you’ve had a long break from sewing and would like a refresher, then this class is suitable for you too.

What will I learn?

how to use a sewing machine
how to sew straight lines, curves and turn corners
basic seam types
how to take up hems
how to insert zips and make machined buttonholes
a mini-project to give you experience measuring and cutting fabric.

A simple pencil or A-line skirt is a good first dressmaking project once you’ve learned how to use a sewing machine. A pencil skirt has a few challenges. It will teach you the following foundation dressmaking techniques:

  • how to measure yourself and find the right size of pattern
  • understanding pattern markings, laying out and cutting fabric
  • how to sew darts
  • sewing seams
  • how to neaten raw edges
  • how to sew a zip
  • using interfacing to stabilise the fabric
  • how to attach a waistband
  • how to take up a hem

Get Creative With Fused Glass

Get Creative With Fused Glass

Saturday 28 August
11:00 am - 4:30 pm

Have you ever tried fusing glass? It is a lot of fun and utterly addictive. In this workshop you will learn how this is done and give it a go. You can make a beautiful glass bowl, a colorful suncatcher or something else that has a personal meaning to you. If you already have basic skills, you can work on your desired project or learn a new technique.
Fusing enables individual pieces of glass to be transformed into a single object when they are put together and exposed to high temperature in a kiln. Depending on the temperature used, different textures and other interesting visual effects can be achieved. Furthermore, placing the glass into a mould or on a prop can produce three-dimensional forms with varying complexity.

In this workshop you will:

• learn the basics of fusing glass
• become skilled in cutting glass and assembling simple forms
• learn how to achieve desired textures and other effects
• design and make your own glass objects to take home

Note that your creations will not be ready at the end of the workshop, but will be available to collect from the studio few days after the workshop, depending on the complexity of the project. All tools and materials will be provided.

The workshop is limited to two participants.
To inquire or book a place, please email Irina to: 523.glassart@gmail.com
