Open Studios Weekend

12 September 2015 - 13 September 2015

The artists, designers and charities based in St Margaret’s House will welcome the public in a special weekend event. Located on Edinburgh’s London Road, it opens its doors to the public on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. Open Studios was started to reveal the breadth of the art, projects and enterprises going on within the brown brick building. Edinburgh Palette has been steadily transforming the space into a vibrant art centre since 2008.

Employing a purposeful rudimentary approach to construction, Benson’s work aims to acknowledge and ascertain founding rules of structural support resulting in temporal, self-sufficient structures that only exist at a single point of balance.

Preview evening | Friday 26 June St Margaret's House is delighted to announce 24, by recent Gray's School graduate Dominic McIvor. Dominic's large-scale works are created by repeating a colour sequence (of 24 small squares, hence the title) hundreds of times over, before peeling the canvas to see what remains.

Private view | Friday 8 May, 6:30pm - 8:30pm genesis  features new paintings by Edinburgh-based artist Steven Hood. The works will tease out connections between the natural world, scientific theorems and art practice. I have returned to a theme I first developed in 2002. That is, the idea that my painting methods suggested similar processes found in Nature. In the case of the genesis series, the idea of something forming or beginning to grow.
