Small postcard exhibition October 2021

This is a unique exhibition of over 100 small postcards on display in Edinburgh Palette, POP UP Gallery.

At this challenging time we at Space Artworks were very keen to reconnect with our artists and communities. The small postcard project came about to support and involve those who have been living in isolation in order to encourage creative expression and participation, with the ultimate aim of staging a group exhibition of artworks, which is now possible and open to all.

Beginners Sewing Course XL

Beginners Sewing Course XL

Thursday 7 October - Thursday 11 November
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Beginners sewing course XL is an extended version of the classic Beginners sewing course, and has become my most popular course. It is a 6-week evening course, so there’s two extra projects to make. This extra sewing practice makes a huge difference to your sewing skill and confidence.

It is a good starting point to learn expert sewing techniques whether you want to progress into dressmaking, soft furnishing or craft projects. It’s also a great refresher if you’ve not sewn for a while. You’ll learn how to understand sewing machines, get experience of using different stitch types, learning about stitch lengths, widths and tensions. I’ll explain what  all the different presser feet are for and you’ll learn how to measure and cut fabric.

Artisan Stitch is run by Jen Skedd, who is a life-long sewist and degree-trained Textile Designer and Artist. They hold a Certificate of Excellence and are rated ‘Best sewing classes in Edinburgh’ and ‘Best Private Sewing Education & Training Provider’.

Under sleep, where all the waters meet.

Under sleep, where all the waters meet.

Saturday 9 October - Saturday 23 October
9:00 am - 8:45 pm

(…)What is this face, less clear and clearer
The pulse in the arm, less strong and stronger —
Given or lent? more distant than stars and nearer than the eye
Whispers and small laughter between leaves and hurrying feet
Under sleep, where all the waters meet. (…) T.S.Eliot ‘Marina’

In this exhibition sculptures, ephemeral wall based pieces and sound interplay and collaborate in order to create a meditative, dream like space and perhaps invite you, the visitor, to travel inwards.

Opening hours:

Monday – Friday: 9am – 9pm

Saturday: 9am – 6pm

Sunday: 12pm – 5pm

Mindful Dotty Art for Wellbeing - online

Mindful Dotty Art for Wellbeing - online

Tuesday 12 October
10:30 am - 11:45 am

At this online class, there’s no dress code, bad hair is appreciated and those hankering for connection welcomed.
This is a drop in, running in 3 week blocks. The same link will let you join for any date, come when you please. Duration 1.15hrs. By donation

So what is Dotty Art?
It’s all about relaxing, feeling good and enjoying yourself. It’s a gentle mindful practice that helps relieve worries, stress and anxiety, aiding feelings of wellbeing. Dot mark making to create images is a primitive art form (probably fingers dots), that’s deeply rooted in tribal cultures across the world from Europe to Australia to Africa and still used today

What will I do at this class?
After settling and making sure everyone is ok with the technology, you’ll be gently guided in an easy 5 minute meditation, this helps set the mood; to give yourself the space to turn off your busy mind, let go and connect with your inner creative genius. Yes, you do have one! You don’t need to be artistic, it’s all about getting into flow and we reckon you’ll be delighted with your creations.
The idea is not to think too much, it’s not about the outcome, it unfolds as you walkabout. Just take one step and see where it takes you. Choose your favourite colours and let the journey unfold as you lose yourself in the moment.
We’ll explore colour and making shapes, dots and patterns. We will spend some time at the beginning with instruction and discussion then quieten until we share our efforts near the end (not compulsory).

Why take this class?
We welcome you and offer you a safe place for nurturing your intuitive process, this is both healing and beautiful.
You will leave with a new skills for relaxation, an uplifting sense of achievement, a quietened mind and an astonishing piece of upcycled art.
You don’t need much to start with; something to dot on, a smooth stone, tin can, jar, wooden bowls, shell, offcuts of wood or card will do fine; some sort of medium like acrylic paint, poster paint, emulsion, paint pens, sharpies or felt pens; and tools for the paint like toothpicks, cotton buds, chop sticks, nail art tools or a pencil.
This class is by charitable donation to support your wellbeing.
EcoArt is a grassroots charity.
