Beginners Sewing Course XL

Beginners Sewing Course XL

Wednesday 9 June - Wednesday 14 July
1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

The Beginners sewing course XL is an extended version of the classic Beginners sewing course. It is a 6-week evening course, so there’s two extra projects to make. This extra sewing practice makes a huge difference to your sewing skill and confidence.

It is a good starting point to learn expert sewing techniques whether you want to progress into dressmaking, soft furnishing or craft projects. It’s also a great refresher if you’ve not sewn for a while. You’ll learn how to understand sewing machines, get experience of using different stitch types, learning about stitch lengths, widths and tensions. I’ll explain what the different presser feet are for and you’ll learn how to measure and cut fabric.

Kids Learn to Sew Class

Kids Learn to Sew Class

Friday 9 July
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Kids Learn to Sew class

The Kids Learn to sew class will teach your child how to use a sewing machine, safely and confidently. Completion of this class is essential before moving on to any of the other Kids sewing classes.  Suitable for ages 8-15.

From age 8, children have the mental capacity to learn the basic concepts and sufficient manual dexterity to operate a sewing machine. It’s actually the perfect age at which to learn. Sewing is an ideal creative activity for children. It develops their manual dexterity, hand/eye co-ordination, and encourages focus and concentration. Completing a sewing project from start to finish fosters a sense of accomplishment that can boost a child’s morale and self-confidence. And it’s really great fun! Plus it gives them a huge sense of achievement and self-worth.

In the Kids sewing class, numbers are limited so each child receive lots of attention and be carefully supervised.

'Advancing the Abstract' debut exhibition by Abstractionistas Collective

Friday 9 July - Sunday 25 July
12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

‘Advancing the Abstract’ is the debut exhibition from a new collective of abstract painters based in Scotland. The collective, aptly named, The Abstractionistas, is currently made up of four artists – Esther Donaldson, Megan Chapman, Judith Shaylor and Susan Wilson. These women bring a depth of experience in the arts and a firm dedication to abstract expression, each one striking a different chord with their use of colour, line, space, and drama.

The goal of the collective is to create more opportunities to share the enduring importance, power and pull of abstraction with viewers across Scotland. Please join us for this exciting inaugural exhibition.

The exhibition will be open to the public, subject to current government guidelines. Masks are required except for those who are exempt, social distancing will be in place, and hand sanitiser will be available.

Please book your free tickets on Eventbrite so that we can provide you with a safer and more enjoyable exhibition experience. There are 10 tickets available for each 30-minute time slot to allow for physical distancing.
