On Tree Time

On Tree Time

Friday 4 June - Sunday 20 June
All Day

‘On Tree Time’ is an exhibition about the ways in which trees adapt and endure. Although they move too slowly for us to perceive, over the span of centuries wood flows, trunks twist and limbs turn. Here Tansy Lee Moir presents a new body of work on paper in charcoal, pastel and oil, celebrating the resilience and life force of trees.

“When I begin to draw an ancient tree I’m struck by a powerful feeling of my being a short-lived creature amongst ancients.”

Tansy Lee Moir is an artist inspired by the forms and stories of old trees. Her art encourages us to look at trees in new ways and to think about our ancient, layered relationships with them as living organisms. Based just outside Edinburgh, she makes work in charcoal, pastel and oil and teaches drawing online and runs workshops.

The exhibition will be open to the public subject to current government guidelines. For opening times and bookings visit the exhibition website.  https://www.tansyleemoir.co.uk/gallery/on-tree-time/

It can also be viewed online here https://www.tansyleemoir.co.uk/gallery/on-tree-time/

All works in the exhibition are for sale, contact mail@tansyleemoir.co.uk to enquire.

Beginners Sewing Course XL

Wednesday 9 June - Wednesday 14 July
1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

The Beginners sewing course XL is an extended version of the classic Beginners sewing course. It is a 6-week evening course, so there’s two extra projects to make. This extra sewing practice makes a huge difference to your sewing skill and confidence.

It is a good starting point to learn expert sewing techniques whether you want to progress into dressmaking, soft furnishing or craft projects. It’s also a great refresher if you’ve not sewn for a while. You’ll learn how to understand sewing machines, get experience of using different stitch types, learning about stitch lengths, widths and tensions. I’ll explain what the different presser feet are for and you’ll learn how to measure and cut fabric.

One-On-One Glass Jewellery Making Class

One-On-One Glass Jewellery Making Class

Saturday 12 June
11:00 am - 4:00 pm

If you are new to glass, but would like to design and make few pieces of your own bespoke jewellery, then this class is for you. You don’t need any prior skills or knowledge, just imagination and creativity. This is one-on-one workshop, but you can come with another person as long as it is a family member or someone from your support ‘bubble’.

We will use colorful fusable glass, which incorporates metals and is perfect for making sparkling jewellery, and both a microwave and a larger glass kiln.

In this workshop you will learn:
• the basics of fusing glass
• how to cut and layer glass in preparation for fusing
• how to fuse glass in a kiln
• post-fusing processing, such as grinding and polishing
• how to attach jewellery findings to glass

At the end of the workshop you should be able to take home a finished pendant (or two) and a pair of earrings (or two) of your own design. You are welcome to bring your own ideas or follow a pre-designed project. The skills that you will learn will help you start making glass jewellery at home or in a studio setting. Tools, and materials will be provided, but please bring an apron with you and wear a mask.
