An ONLINE exhibition of drawings and prints exploring wood and woodland by Tansy Lee Moir and Margaret Pitt.
‘Out of the Wood’ brings together two artists whose contrasting work shares themes of time, history natural processes. Wood also unites them, as a material to create images from and as a living subject to make images of.
Margaret Pitt uses plywood to create her bold woodcut plates, producing richly textured, layered prints. Her colourful imagery is suffused with symbols and archaeological influences, both mysterious and timeless.
Tansy Lee Moir hunts through woodlands for the ancient and unusual trees which are the source of her work. Her dramatic charcoal works conjure light falling on time-ravaged tree forms, whilst her dynamic drawings and oils convey a sense of movement and vibrancy.
7th – 21st August 2020.
Nobility Pursuit is a developmental ONLINE exhibition in which St Margaret’s House tenant and artist James Alexander McKenzie showcases some paintings which are part of an ongoing body of work. McKenzie’s allegorical painting’s principle interest is Being. Influenced by different philosophical attitudes, his whimsical paintings meditate joyfully on its different manifestations, drawing largely from personal experience. His work’s chief motivations are humility, compassion and simplicity.
