10:00 am - 4:00 pm
This special Beginners Sewing Day is a quick and easy introduction to sewing for parents and children. It provides the starting point to learn some foundation sewing techniques together. You’ll learn how to understand sewing machines, get experience of using different stitch types, learn about stitch lengths, widths and tensions. I’ll explain what the different presser feet are for and you’ll learn how to measure and cut fabric.
Then there’s an easy sewing project to make so you can practice your new skills. (Projects may vary, but will be specified for each event.)
I’ve been sewing since I was a child and that’s a lot of years experience. During that time, I’ve made every mistake in the book. During the Beginners Sewing Day, I’ll be sharing lots of my tips. So you can benefit from my mistakes and learn to sew like a pro. I wish I’d known all this stuff when I was starting out.
Who is this aimed at?
Adults and children Beginners (if you’ve not used a sewing machine before or if you’ve only recently learned).
What will I learn?
- How to use a sewing machine safely and confidently
- How to wind bobbins and thread up the machine
- Understand the importance of correct thread tension
- How to sew perfect straight lines, smooth curves and turn corners
- How to take up a hem
- An easy sewing project. (You will need to bring your choice of fabric. I’ll tell you what you’ll need when you book)
Price is for 1 Adult and 1 child aged between 8-12.

In this workshop we will learn Fair Isle knitting using Tin Can Knits Anthology cowl recipe. A great first project for those looking to try colour-work in their knitting. The pattern gives you the chance to experiment with different Fair Isle designs and colours which we’ll explore during the class. Please come to class having already cast-on and completed the ribbing section of the regular cowl so we can jump straight in to the Fair Isle portion and get creative!
250 yards total Aran weight yarn (in 2 or more colours)
4.0mm & 5.0mm circular needle (40cm)
Please note you will have the cowl ribbing to complete as homework before the workshop, so you will be able to get straight to the Fair Isle in the workshop (the fun bit)!
