Fast-track your sewing skills on this 4 week course on Thursday evenings.
Learn how to use a sewing machine confidently and some foundation sewing skills.
How to use a sewing machine safely and confidently
How to wind bobbins and how to thread a sewing machine
Understand the mysteries of correct thread tension
How to sew perfect straight lines, smooth curves and turn corners
Learn three different seam types and when to use them
How to take up a hem
Make machined buttonholes and how to sew in a zip
Make a lovely craft project to gain experience measuring, cutting and sewing fabric.
Plus the course is packed with expert sewing tips from a lifelong sewist. This course is excellent preparation if you’d like to move onto dressmaking, soft furnishing or general craft sewing.
Introduction to Sewing Class
6:30 pm - 3:30 pm
This practical sewing course will help you become familiar with the basics of machine sewing and help you build your confidence using a domestic sewing machine before moving on to a simple sewing project after which you can graduate onto another intermediate course offered by Edinburgh Sewcial Club.
Week one:
Threading Sewing Machine and winding & inserting bobbin in machine.
Confident driving skills
Learning about fabric qualities and various machine stitches
Week two:
Summary of previous week
Utilising the skills learned on week 1 for a small project – envelope cushion or tote bag.
Once you have completed the 2 week beginners class you will be able to confidently move on to a dressmaking class to progress further your new found skills.
Make a Pencil Skirt

This 5-week evening class is suitable if you’ve recently learned to sew and would like to learn how to make clothes.
A simple pencil skirt is a good first dressmaking project once you’ve learned how to use a sewing machine.
This class aims to teach you the sewing skills required to be able to make a gorgeous and fashionable skirt of your own. A pencil skirt has a few challenges. It will teach you foundation dressmaking techniques.
