Gray's School of Art | 4th Year Painting Exhibition

Sunday 25 February - Saturday 10 March

This exhibition brings the 4th year painters at Gray’s School of Art out of their studios and into a gallery space together for the first time. The students are all painting undergraduates, but this is a diverse group with a range of media on show including video, sculpture, drawing and painting. They have been wholly responsible for organising and presenting this exhibition which has required collaboration, cooperation and a degree of compromise from all involved. All skills that will help the students in their professional life after Art School.

2 Week Introduction to Sewing

2 week Introduction to Sewing: 27th February & 6th March 6.30pm – 9pm

This practical sewing course will help you become familiar with the basics of machine sewing and help you build your confidence using a domestic sewing machine before moving on to a simple sewing project after which you can graduate onto another intermediate course offered by Edinburgh Sewcial Club.

Free-Motion Embroidery

Friday 2 March

Free-motion embroidery is a useful core skill for Textile Artists, Quilters and Felters. It’s also useful for cardmaking and any other craft. You may also know it as Free-machine embroidery, or free-hand machine embroidery. Many of my other creative workshops involve free-motion embroidery. So if you’re not sure which one to take, then I recommend this one as a starting point. No ‘drawing’ experience is necessary and you can use a basic sewing machine. It doesn’t have to be an expensive or ‘fancy’ one.

Children use a variety of materials and are encouraged to further their ability and imagination. Class sizes are small (between 8-15 children) allowing us to spend time with each child and welcome all abilities. Classes are led by Arts Education Tutor Poppy Richards who works across a number of arts organisations across Edinburgh including National Galleries of Scotland and Jupiter Artland in school engagement roles. Poppy has a working knowledge of child protection and a full PVG disclosure.

CHILDREN (5+) French Bilingual Theatre Classes

In 2018, enable your children to learn and improve French while playing fun drama games! Best of both worlds: Acting & Languages!

Test your French knowledge and learn new words and skills whilst being creative on stage regardless of your level. Drama games and improvisation exercises will be at the core of the class focusing on building up the confidence to speak in a foreign language in the first place, playing around with sounds, developing vocabulary and discovering French culture.
