A small group of enthusiasts led by Mary Walters (past director of Edinburgh’s unique Slide Workshop: 1980 – 2000) are to be based at St Margaret’s House in the galleries to explore relationships between a variety of analogue and digital projection methods – and also to investigate the potential of the spaces created by the projected images.

Learn How to Paint Your Furniture

Saturday 13 January

Let your creativity flow, learn how to paint your furniture! This class is a great opportunity to relax and have some creative fun.

You gain access to paints / brushes / waxes and can experiment in a friendly and supportive environment without making expensive mistakes. Best of all you get to transform a transform a piece of your furniture and gain the confidence to upcycle more furniture.

During the class, you will learn:

* how to prepare your piece and make your own chalk paint
* practice brush work skills to achieve a flat or textured finish
* taping and distressing
* how to protect your furniture with a wax or varnish
* from our tutor’s knowledge, experience and helpful tips!

All items pictured on this page were painted by attendees of our furniture painting class. Please bring or pre-order, a small item of wooden furniture to paint e.g. a small side table, coffee table, magazine rack, dining chair, small cabinet or a stool.

Ring Making - Wax Carving for Beginners

Explore a new set of skills you always wanted to learn in friendly and relaxed atmosphere!
Ring Making – Wax carving for beginners is suitable for people without any previous experience with jewellery but also for jewellers who would like to learn a new technique. During this workshop you will learn how to carve jewellery from special waxes and how to prepare your pieces for casting. One of your designs will be then cast in Sterling Silver.
