Grown Together: an exhibition about people and trees

Saturday 11 November - Sunday 26 November
11:00 am - 6:00 pm

Opening event Saturday 11th November 1-4pm

This exhibition brings together 18 artists, makers, poets and designers whose work is intimately connected with trees and woodland.

Though their works span a wide variety of media they are all united by a strong affinity with woodland; as a place to observe and connect with nature, as a rich source of metaphor, as a place for reflection and healing, as a link to distant myths and inspiration for new writing, as a sustainable resource to work with. For some, trees are their singular subject or their raw materials, for others they represent a starting point for their imagination.

In The Shadows Cast By Trees

A collection of images and poetry inspired by nature and mythology

Opening Event: Saturday, 11 November 1pm 4pm
Free Poetry Workshop: Saturday, 18 November 2pm – 3:30pm

As life has its circle; as paths meander and are lost in the forest; as death becomes rebirth, the endless cycle continues. Where we fit into this circle is an open-ended question, a puzzle we try to solve through stories, mythology and religion. And who knows what may be found in the shadows cast by trees.

The Edinburgh Tool Library, a charity building a community for all, without costing the earth.

To celebrate our recent 3rd birthday, we have gathered some stories and creations of our volunteers and members. After the success of our exhibition at Custom Lane, we’re starting to tour the show with a first stop at our favourite arts & community centre St Margaret’s House.

What’s really exciting this time is that we will have our new bike kitchens in situ (Fork in the Road… geddit?!!!). Come and meet Mo and the pair of bike kitchens to get a taste of what we’ll be getting up to in the coming months. She’ll be there on Saturday 11th November from 1-4pm showing off the kitchens and sharing Fork in the Road’s vision for kitchens that can go anywhere.

Come along to the exhibition and see all the things members, volunteers and staff make, and some of the amazing projects we have done.

If you’re interested in volunteering opportunities with us, come along on Saturday too, Cécile our volunteer coordinator will be happy to tell you more!
