We’ll be creating our first fire on Friday 2nd June, from around 7:30pm, in the garden at 44 Maryfield. The intention for this fire is to offer an opportunity for you to burn an item you want to let go of.
It might be a letter – unsent or received, a photograph or other small object. It may be a memory… How does one burn a memory? We will provide materials for you to draw or write it down before burning.
We have both experienced fire to be a transformative and cleansing force; to watch and interact with. Its ability to change the form and energy of an object can offer a kind of peace.
We began a month ago by building our own fire and burning our collaborative work from last year’s exhibition. Both of us are keen to share the sense of creatively destroying something we no longer need or want. As something is destroyed, something else is created.
- What are you burning?
- Why you are burning it?
- How did you feel when you burnt it?
- Did anything change for you?
Great care will be taken in the construction of the fire and we will be on hand to help.
Our only stipulations are:
The item is no bigger than an average shoe box.
The item won’t emit toxins into the atmosphere.
If you are unable to make the fire on the 2nd but would like to take part, please do get in touch and we will do our best to find another suitable time.
