The Thrive Archive | Live art project

A special event will be taking place in Gallery 1 of St Margaret’s in early January.  Combining a musical performance by the Edinburgh Youth Gathering Band, projections from Mettje Hunneman and contributed artworks as part of curator and artist Jan Bee Brown‘s The Thrive Archive.

All will be made welcome on Sunday 4 January – so come along, get involved and contribute your own ideas about home, family and community to this heart-warming project.

Upcoming conference | Copyright and Cultural Heritage 2.0

scotsman lectureThe Scotsman have let us know about their upcoming conferences that may be of interest to the building, including Copyright and Cultural Heritage 2.0: Protecting creators, sharing content.

 

Taking place in The Scottish National Gallery, this conference will examine how copyright owners and creators, such as photographers, can licence and protect their creative output in a digital economy.

 

The conference will hear from senior representatives of the cultural heritage sector on how these changes will affect access to our shared cultural heritage.

Community news | Kalopsia Collective Residency

 

Starting January 2015, Ocean Terminal is embarking on a first –of- its- kind project with social enterprise Kalopsia Collective that will see the contemporary textile practitioners take up a year long Curator in Residency in the shopping centre.

 

The Leith-based Kalopsia will be responsible for providing 12 months of different events, exhibitions and projects based around high quality creations and textiles to increase community engagement and activity within the sprawling retail unit.

Winter Open Studios | November 2014

A6-FRONTThe artists, makers and craftspeople of St Margaret’s House are opening their studios to the public for a weekend-long event. Family-friendly workshops, a craft fair, a café and one-off performances will take place across the building’s eight storeys. Located on the city’s London Road, it opens its doors to the public on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November.

Upcoming play | Something Resembling Love

something d21Can our childhood imaginings unlock the door to true love?  Something resembling love, a new one-hour play by Fife playwright Cameron Forbes, delves deep into the worlds of one boy and one girl, their childhood friendship, separation and reunion, and a secret box that can only be opened on one very special occasion.

Exhibition | Art of Syrian Children Refugees

This exhibition comprises 166 paintings and drawings created by Syrian refugee children during three month psychological support project run by the Syrian humanitarian relief agency Najda Now at the Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon.  Some pictures from the Exhibition can be seen here.

Winter Open Studios 2014

Our Winter Open Doors have been confirmed for the final weekend in November, 28th and 29th.

All artists, designers and makers from St Margaret’s House are invited to open their studios for the weekend, allowing the public to visit and discover our creative and artistic community.

There will also be a Makers’ Fair running in Gallery 2 (ideal for Christmas shoppers), as well as various workshops and events, organised for children and families.
