Blunt Knife Co. is a new social enterprise based in Edinburgh that supports and promotes creative womxn. This month we launch our first project 20/20 HINDSIGHT, a showcase of writing, art and music by womxn creators.
For the most part, the last 12 months have been a steaming pile of shite, but from within the dung-heap brilliant artists have persevered and pushed out art that has enthralled us, inspired us, excited us and had us fist-pumping F*CK YEAHs to the universe.
From April 10 we’ll be bringing you a selection of 20 works by womxn that you may have missed amongst the chaos. It’s just a drop in a big pool of awesome, but think of it as a taste-test of Blunt Knife Co. and what we’re about.

Red Note Ensemble (www.rednoteensemble.com) is looking for a musician at an early stage of their career to join us for a fixed-term one-year, mentored role. We’re seeking someone who is a little bit obsessed about creating new music themselves, and making music with other people, to work with us on a variety of performance and community projects.
We recognise that many people haven’t been able to take up opportunities to pursue a career in creating music due to financial pressures of coming from a lower socio-economic background. For this reason, this post is designed to support the career progression of someone who has faced barriers because of their socio-economic background.
We are looking for someone who has:
• 2-5 years’ experience since leaving school. This may have been on e.g. an education/training course, a job, a caring or voluntary role. It doesn’t matter whether this was or wasn’t directly connected to music
• Shown sustained commitment to generating their own new music
• Some experience of working with music with community groups, but may have had no formal training
We reached out asking for specific themes for more resident pop-ups and we are happy to announce that the next theme is: figures! Images must be submitted via this link on the website by Friday the 17th of July and meet the following requirements:
Images must be a minimum of 1200 px wide
72 dpi resolution

If you are unable to edit your images to the above specifications, please let Carly know via email and we will do this for you. Please do not submit images to the website if this is the case. The exhibition will run from the 24th of July – 7th of August if there is enough uptake.
Each image will be linked to your residents directory profile so please populate your contact information and give consent to publish. Again, any problems get in touch with Carly.
I am a multidisciplinary artist and have lived in Italy, Spain and Germany. I moved back to Edinburgh at the end of December and immediately went in search of studio space in Edinburgh. Finally in February I managed to secure a space in St Margaret’s house and finally started getting back into producing new work. This is abstract work on paper, using maps as inspiration as well as latterly as the surface of the paintings. Once lockdown was put in place, I quickly took a multi media piece I had just started to work on and brought it home, which I have been working on ever since in my living room and at the moment is embroidery and appliqué on raw canvas. I am looking forward to getting back in to the studio to continue with the larger works on paper.

No drama, no texts but a lot of fun! We will get to know each other through theatre games and exercises with the emphasis on fun, mutual support and curiosity. Participants will learn about visual performance by working together supportively in groups and solo, exploring ideas through subtle movement exercises, improvising around themes and placing our work within the space in different ways. Prior experience is not necessary but it is also welcome. The most important thing to bring along is yourself!
This workshop is focussed on process and not on an end result, leaving us free to play with ideas and see where they go. We will be exploring creative exercises in a light and playful way, shaping the day to match where our enthusiasm runs.
New Works is a selection of recent projects from Blueroom Collective, featuring an eclectic mix of experimental typography across a range of media including print, digital, experiential, 3D, textiles and light.
This will be our first full exhibition since moving to Studio B12 at St Margaret’s House. The show also features a guest contribution from graphic artist and cult author Richard Littler, creator of Scarfolk.
New Works runs from Friday 7th through to Sunday 9th December and entry each day is free.
The opening night event on Thursday 6th has an entry fee of £4 and will include sounds, refreshments and a selection of prints for sale. Click here for tickets.
