Simply Singing | from January 2015

Simply Singing begins again on Wednesday 7 January.  They welcome new members and meet weekly in G3, next to the Swap Shop on the Ground Floor.

We sing songs from all around the world in 3 or 4 part harmony. We are a small group hoping to grow and we sing purely for the joy of singing.

Come and join us. No need to be able to read music or understand musical terminology – songs are taught by ear in the traditional way.

Cost: £4 per session. 7pm-9pm.

Generous funding opportunities | Creative Scotland

Creative Place Awards 2015

Launched in 2012, the Creative Place Awards recognise communities where people work together to celebrate and promote their town, village or area through the arts and culture – enabling them to build on their strengths and to try new things. We encourage applications from cultural organisations, community groups and local authorities to represent their village, town or community and to bid for an award. You can apply for an award of either: £50k, £100k, or £125k. The level you apply for will depend on which category most suits your size of population, current levels of activity, the scale of your planned activities and your capacity to deliver.

Applicants must be Edinburgh based.

The Edinburgh Visual Artists and Craft Makers Awards Scheme

Awards of between £500 and £1500 are available.

Emerging Artists – Bursaries Scheme

The Bursary programme will support up to 2 successful applicants to develop and progress their creative practice over 12 months.

The programme will be tailored to the individual artist/maker and will include mentoring which may lead to the development of skills/training, creation of new work, presenting and marketing work.

The successful applicant will be awarded £1,500 as a bursary with a further budget available for any identified additional support that may be needed.

Desire Lines | Edinburgh’s cultural community under review

As the Council is preparing a new cultural policy, Desire Lines is surveying thoughts and opinions from working artists and makers likely to be affected by, and hopefully benefit from, the changes.
Tania Czajka attended the first meeting and found it “busy, lively and interesting” and thought it would be of interest to our St MH community of artists. The aim is to circulate ideas and to assess and improve Edinburgh cultural life.
