News Community News Call for projects seeking funders | Edinburgh Soup

edinburgh soup buttonEDINBURGH SOUP is an innovative new event to help fund creative and community projects in Edinburgh. Guests pay a donation of £5 to attend. They get soup, they get music, but the focus of the night is the project pitches. Four invited speakers get five minutes to tell the audience about a project for which they need funding. No video, no Powerpoint, just a straight pitch. At the end, the audience vote on which idea they like best, and the winner gets the pot of donations. The winner then returns to a future SOUP to tell us how they’ve done.

The first EDINBURGH SOUP will take place at Assembly Roxy on 1 October.

Could you be one of our speakers? We are inviting people to make proposals to appear at the night. We need to know the following:

  • What does your organisation do?
  • What is its status? (Charity, community interest, private…?)
  • What project are you hoping to fund?
  • Why should people fund this?
  • What would the money be spent on?
  • How could you guarantee the money had been appropriately used?

If you can answer those questions in a side of A4 or less, please get in touch edinburghsoup@gmail.com and we will consider you as a speaker for an upcoming SOUP.

It’s not all about the money. Think about SOUP as a profile-raising event. You get the opportunity to introduce your ideas to a group of interested new people as part of a great, social night. You will get to meet potential new volunteers, funders or patrons. You will hear some good music. You will have some delicious soup. And yes, you might get some funding for your project.

SOUP is being run by promoters Phil Bolger and Robert Peacock on a voluntary basis. They are asking everyone involved in the event to provide their services for free to ensure that all the door money goes towards one of the projects. Through their contacts they will be promoting EDINBURGH SOUP across the press and social media, and bringing together a great audience of people to hear about your work. Assembly have kindly offered the venue, and Union of Genius the soup.
