News Community News Artist portraits | For painters/sculptors

I am a mature Italian photographer, recently moved to Edinburgh, and I am carrying out a research project which aim is to investigate, through the use of photography, the essence of painting/sculpting and what painting/sculpting implies mainly in terms of thought and inspiration of the painter/sculptor.

Many photographers have taken portraits of painters or sculptors either with their finished artworks or as they are working. However, such pictorial records have been limited to the documentation of the action of painting or sculpting itself, without investigating the underlying thought process and the genesis of the ideas.

The aim of the project is also to define a new way of using photography. This will be describing something, not just by purely documenting it, but by producing an artwork which emotionally facilitates our understanding of the work of another artist who uses a different media of expression.

Some images and a more detailed description of the project are available by clicking here. To see my biography click here. Please notice that the project is mainly on painting, but I would be very interested in taking pictures of sculptors, too.

I would like to know if you would be interested in discussing the possibility of being a subject of my project. No work is required from your side, apart from letting me take some photos. Of course if any photos will be produced you will be allowed to used them freely for your personal promotion.

I attach a sample of images already taken for the project.

With many thanks for your attention,

Pietro
