News Community News 30 Days | Success of local “ideas” project

Thanks to people like you, 30 new ideas for The Crags were published during 30 days in March. Ideas were submitted, connections formed, projects started and big ideas debated.

Week one featured the story of Sarah and her idea to develop girls’ basketball at The Crags. Sarah’s story got the ball rolling and new ideas were submitted, ranging from re-openingThe Engine Shed building to creating a Science Club at The Crags.

During the second week, the ideas really began to flow. Gillian’s idea for aerial yoga was our featured story and we had ideas to develop a new place for mountain bikes, drama sessions for those with dementia and networking events to solve global problems.

Having reached the half-way point, the ideas kept coming with plans to organise a running group and art classes at The Crags. We also featured Angus Calder’s story to develop the Skelf Bike Skills Park outside The Crags.

Cat Perry danced her way in to the final week of the campaign with her idea to develop a dance academy at The Crags. We received yet more unique ideas such as helping kids to learn English through sport as well as The Crags looking to help other businesses manage their facilities. John also jumped on to the scene with his idea for a parkour park at The Crags.

Kind words

Following so many worthy ideas, we invited all of the contributors to an Ideas Market which took place on the 31st March. The event was a great way to celebrate the broad range of ideas that were contributed throughout the month and sparked numerous conversations and connections.
Local Councillor Cameron Rose said “I was so impressed to see the realism, the initiative and the ideas brought together in the Ideas Market. It was a pleasure to attend and kudos to all those involved.”
Alison Neathey, who sparked the idea to reopen the Engine Shed building, attended the Ideas Market and said “I really enjoyed finding out about other people’s projects, and thinking about how they might fit in with the Engine Shed building.”

What’s next

We’re currently evaluating each idea to see how each one can be progressed. Some ideas will be implemented right away, others will need support to get them started while the biggest ideas will require deeper analysis.
Over the next 30 months, we’ll be developing each idea as far we can and might drop you a line every so often to update you.
Even though the campaign is complete, we’re still open to suggestions. If you have a new idea please email ideas@cragsedinburgh.com or get in touch on Facebook, Twitteror Instagram.
We’d love to hear what you thought of the campaign, please feel free to reply with your comments or to ask a question about getting involved.
