PUZZLE IN THE GARDENS

An art installation by Anne Gilchrist celebrating the variety and character of this lovely collection of trees in

Princes Street Gardens (East and West)
Exhibition runs 15th July-15th September 2018
22 jigsaw-puzzle shaped pieces set in the trees

My “cryptic” work is generated from the immediate environment, blending art to
landscape. The installation is conceived as an experience of discovery, drawing you
into an interactive variant of landscape painting.

I also like to think of this kind of work as a silent witness to the natural world around
us. It is quiet, almost secret. Just being there is enough, as it is for the trees.

Identity: a collaborative, cross-arts, experiential exploration

August 2018

“In the social jungle of human existence, there is no feeling of being alive without a sense of identity.”
Erik Erikson

Charioteer Theatre, in collaboration with St. Margaret’s House – Edinburgh Art, is
bringing together international artists from different backgrounds and cultural heritages who
have faced or are facing questions regarding identity, or who struggle or have
struggled to find or affirm their own identity as human beings and members of
today’s society.
The artists will work collaboratively and develop the theme of Identity from their various and different perspectives.
We would like the space to become a place to explore and create new synergies between artists from contrasting backgrounds.

Visiting Hours & Events
Visitors are welcome to visit Gallery 2 when the doors are open from the 25th – 30th July.
Pop in for a look and a chat!

Any public events or sharings will be announced on the Edinburgh Palette website & social media as the residency develops.

Stanley Street – a new home for Edinburgh Palette

It’s been a hugely successful few weeks for Edinburgh Palette. In June the charity signed a short-term lease for 525 Ferry Road and has now also been successful in their bid for Stanley Street, Portobello.

Stanley Street - artist impression

The versatility and options the two new properties afford the charity will enable growth in ways which cannot yet be predicted. The possibilities are varied and the scope exceeds what was previously possible with St Margaret’s House being the only premises in Edinburgh Palette’s portfolio.

As some of you may already know, the space at Stanley Street has already been occupied by Edinburgh Palette since February, where building contractor, Eddie McVitie,

has been overseeing the tidy up of the land and buildings. The plot had previously been occupied by a double glazing company but had lain vacant for a time before Edinburgh Palette was offered 6-month use of the space. The team at Edinburgh Palette are thrilled that their bid has been successful as this enables the charity to work on its vision for the future with a more sustainable, stable and long-term lease agreement. Edinburgh Palette has and will reach out to both the community within St Margaret’s House, and the local community surrounding Stanley Street to create a dynamic, creative, holistic vision for the space in Portobello. The creativity, resilience and determination of the residents of St Margaret’s House will undoubtedly make this new phase for the charity very exciting and we look forward to updating you with progress as the project evolves.

If you would like to find out more about either the property at Ferry Road or Stanley Street and how you can get involved, contact Andrew Chainey, Edinburgh Palette Development Manager. His office is on the third floor of St Margaret’s House or he can be reached by email, andrew@edinburghpalette.co.uk or telephone on 0131 661 1924.

Moving Forward Together Consultation Report

What do we have, what do we need, what do we keep, what can you offer? Four questions posed, over 150 thoughts and ideas fed back.

One card stood out:

Affordability – Security – Longevity – Prosperity

As we all know times have been a changing at St Margaret’s House and the Moving Forward Together consultation launched by Edinburgh Palette during Open Doors was timely, offering an opportunity to regroup and to celebrate how relevant the community and Edinburgh Palette is to many individuals and collectives who work at 151 London Road.

Additional premises at 525 Ferry Road

After much hard work, Edinburgh Palette is pleased to announce that additional premises have been secured for the charity. The 110,000 sq ft building at 525 Ferry Road sits in a prominent position in the Crewe Toll area and has numerous studio spaces available.

Previously used by the banking sector, the premises boast an impressive and welcoming entrance, light, bright working spaces, is fully accessible with lifts and wheelchair ramps and has excellent bus links on the doorstep. The Edinburgh Palette team is delighted and look forward to sharing more details of the property with you as we start moving in.

If you are interested in renting space at this location, or would like to hear more about the opportunities on the horizon for Edinburgh Palette, get in touch with Dale Gibson. He can be found on the ground floor of St Margaret’s House or can be reached via email on dale@edinburghpalette.co.uk.
