News Special announcement | Open Studios 2016

Emma-Open-for-artSt Margaret’s House is an inclusive, creative community where arts, enterprise and communities are able to co-exist and collaborate. Despite its size, the building often feels hidden in plain sight. Therefore we open our doors once a year to let the public see all that goes on here.

This year, we plan to open for art on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd October 2016. There are three exhibitions featuring St Margaret’s residents opening that weekend, so we cautiously expect good footfall already.

We are sure you will immediately want to cancel all other plans – weddings, birthdays, holidays, etc. (Please note that Edinburgh Palette cannot be held liable for any charges incurred from cancelled travel arrangements).

Submission forms will be released nearer the time for registering to open studios and running events within the weekend. For now, think whether you wish to participate and open your studio, put on an activity or create a temporary installation in or around the building.

Public workshops could run in 6.17, the theatre space in G21 or Lorna Brown’s new workshop space in G5. Installations and artworks could be shown in the Ground Floor Lounge, the Basement and London Road entrances, the embankment garden, Library lounge, the lifts and the stairwell. Submissions will be welcomed via an online submission form, also be released soon. Please note that there is unlikely to be a budget available to create new work.
